What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is a Hindu system of medicine that is considered to be the "science of life," and is an ancient system of natural healing. This medical practice is based on two main beliefs; (1) the mind and body are closely linked, and (2) the mind has the power to heal and transform the body. Ayurveda is a personalized, consciousness-based approach to health that factors in one's specific mind-body type, which effects one's choices about diet, exercise, supplements and overall lifestyle. Whereas modern systems of medicine tend to target one's specific ailment, Ayurveda instead acts as a comprehensive system of medicine that focuses on full-body health and wellness, promoting balance. As a healing system, Ayurveda ultimately aims to help people achieve a vibrant and joyful state of health - mentally, emotionally and physically.
What are mind-body types? Ayurvedic mind-body types are referred to as doshas, and they include the following: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each type differs in personality, physique, ailments, habits and tendencies. Ayurveda is deeply rooted in nature, and each dosha revolves around a combination of the Five Great Elements; Water, Fire, Air, Earth and Space.
- Vata is associated with Space and Air, and represents qualities like cold, light, dry, irregular, rough, mobile, quick and changeable. These qualities manifest mentally, emotionally and physically in the following ways; a thin, light build; dry skin and hair; cold hands and feet; quick movement and conversation; an openness to change and new experiences; enthusiasm and vivaciousness; a tendency toward anxiety, insomnia and distraction.
- Pitta is associated with Fire and Water, and represents qualities like hot, light, intense, penetrating, pungent, sharp, acidic and moist. These qualities manifest mentally, emotionally and physically in the following ways; a medium, muscular build; warm body temperature; sharp intellect; preference for routine; courageousness and directness; a bright and friendly attitude; a tendency to become impatient or irritable.
- Kapha is associated with Water and Earth, and represents qualities like cold, heavy, solid, stable, smooth, slow, steady and enduring. These qualities manifest mentally, emotionally and physically in the following ways; a large, heavyset build; smooth skin and thick hair; an easygoing and supportive personality; thoughtfulness and loyalty; a resistance to change and a need for routine; a tendency toward complacency and neediness.
What are Ayurvedic Infusions? Davidson's has introduced a line of seven functional teas called Ayurvedic Infusions. These blends are meant to align the inner elements and forces of the body, to the outer elements and forces of the universe. The infusions aim to promote balance between the mind, body and spirit, and are meant to be used as a functional means to reach inner balance and general health. Davidson's Ayurvedic Infusions are uniquely formulated to appease each of the three doshas at once, taking great care to provide an all-encompassing solution to any imbalance, no matter the dosha that it is associated with.
